Also to remain at a certain (or such and such, you choose the age and place here) age and is unmarried.

To be a spinster, but then it has some derogatory connotations.

To be unmarried at the age...

Being a single woman at a late age (it could be that she choose the career over something else, or even over everything else.)

Never-married woman (at a certain age - it seems like the bar is begging setting up higher every decade or so - life expectancy, etc.).

And other ways.

Ah! In Portuguese "ficar pra titia" (certamente não ficar pra sua tia, mas "ficar tia" - na função de tia dos filhos dos irmãos e irmãs, etc). These days is somehow a bit rare, but you could listen this one somewhere else.
So, you will know what it mean, just in case.

Never-married woman (at a certain age - it seems like the bar is begging setting up higher every decade or so - life expectancy, etc.). As in, "being a never-married man over the age of 120...is a stigma in certain countries".

And other ways.

By the way, sometimes a touchy subject or it was.
It is when people somehow keep scrutinizing them about their civil status (married or unmarried), mainly friends, family members, and others. Then after reaching a certain age group, they don´t worry that much and soften the pressure.

My suggestion:

Spinster. = A spinster, or old maid, is an older, childless woman who has never been married. A "spinster" is not simply a "single" woman, but a woman who has not formed a human pair bond by the time she is approaching or has reached menopause and the end of her reproductive lifespan.

Sobre o uso da palavra SPINSTER:

1.

- The development of the word spinster is a good example of the way in which a word acquires strong connotations to the extent that it can no longer be used in a neutral sense. From the 17th century the word was appended to names as the official legal description of an unmarried woman: Elizabeth Harris of London, Spinster. This type of use survives today in some legal and religious contexts. In modern everyday English, however, spinster cannot be used to mean simply ‘unmarried woman’; it is now always a derogatory term, referring or alluding to a stereotype of an older woman who is unmarried, childless, prissy, and repressed. (Oxford)

2.

- As far as an acceptable modern alternative goes, "single" is probably as good as anything. (Wordreference - UK)
- It's a very old fashioned word that most people would find odd and offensive, or at best humorous. (Wordreference - USA)
