Já foi debatido aqui algumas vezes, mas deixo umas opções:

Rui tarnished(harmed/tainted/smeared) his reputation before his boss ...
"Rui had his image deconstructed before..." se encaixa aí?

Rui definitely lost cred, after doing that.
Rui certainly fell in disgrace with his boss, in the wake of his action...
Rui boss lost confidence in him after having learned that...

And also:

Rui tarnished his reputation/got his reputation tarnished after word came to his boss that he was twisting facts/that he was running projects on his own (without giving his boss some feedback on the progress of the project).

Rui tarnished his reputation after his boss got wind that he was spreading misinformation/that he was falsifying information*.

*or "allegedly" (and wilfully/intentionally) falsifying information/documents etc.
Since to say something straightforwardly like this one needs proof.
