To learn = to find out = ficar sabendo

Fiquei sabendo que se chama Terezinha.
I found out she's called Terezinha.
I learned her name is Terezinha.
Thanks Donay for the Tip !

Donay, tenho uma dúvida quanto ao " I heard ".
Eu não deveria usá-lo no Present Perfect ? Não há uma relação de que fiquei sabendo no passado e ainda estou sabendo no presente ? :?

Thanks in advance

Never land,

Hoje em dia, principalmente em linguagem falada, "I've heard" e "I heard" se equivalem bastante. Você vai encontrar muito "I've heard" no UK; e muito "I heard" nos EUA.

Bom dia!

Seguindo a sugestão do Thomas, podemos realmente empregar o verbo to learn (que geralmente entendemos como o verbo aprender). Lendo um livro deparei-me várias vezes com o verbo to learn com o sentido de ficar sabendo. Vejam:

.....When my mom learned that President Bush was going to nominate me to be Treasury secretary and that I had agreed to take the job, she didn't mince words.

Complementando:

Quando tem sentido de 'fofoca', "fiquei sabendo" = "ouvi dizer": I heard through the grapevine.

get word
  1. Just got word that Mary Jane is getting married.
  2. She'll chase them down if she gets word they are on the street.
get wind
  1. They somehow got wind that we didn't wash the car.
  2. If my dad gets wind of this, he will kill us all.
Similarmente à sugestão do Jefferson:

"Word got around that..."
"Word has it that..."
"The word is that..."
