Eai Vitor,

Não sei se existe uma expressão exatamente pra dizer ''Ir pela cabeça dos outros'' mas você pode dizer, "Go by people's idea" ou "Go by people's though", acredito que isso se encaixaria bem.

Ex:
Brazil can't go by USA's idea and accept the ALCA.
Don't go by his idea because you will get in trouble.
You can go by his idea, he is a nice guy.

Hope it helps! :D
"Go with the flow"

"When you’re new in a school, it’s easiest to just go with the flow for a while, and see what people are like."

However, If you happen to be taking the other way 'round, you can say you "swim against the stream"

"I had to swim against the stream to get the company to adopt more eco-friendly habits, but I think it will be worth it in the long run."

One could also say to a teen "you don´t need to blindly follow the crowd, you can do your own thing!." A parent, for instance.

You do your own thing when you do what you want to do yourself. It also serves to warn that one doesn´t need to struggle to fit in the crowd, so he/she can do their own thing and be themselves.
I used the words "to a teen" for imagery´s sake, a phase where this kind of children-parents situation happens, but the expression/warning is valid to everyone else.
