"Gunslinger" is possible, but mostly it isused to describe someone from around 1850 to 1900 in American's Old West.

More common equivalents are gunman, hired killer, hitman (hit = murder paid for by a second person), hired gun, shooter, etc. (Shooter is commonly used by the police and military to describe a killer.)

Opções:

a. Mandante do crime: accessory before the fact

Definição de "accessory before the fact": An accessory before the fact is someone behind the scenes who orders a crime or helps another person commit it. [Thefreedictionary]

b. Pistoleiro: hit man

Definição de "hit man'': a criminal who is paid to kill people. [Thefreedictionary]
Donay, "accsessory before the fact" é uma expressão amplamente usada? Estou achando que é algo usado na área jurídica. É só uma impressão minha.
"Mastermind" pode ser usado para mandante, responsável pelo ato e "Gunslinger" para pistoleiro.

Outras opções para "mandante do crime": chief plotter, instigator, the man behind the crime

Sim, Simon, esta primeira opção minha é bem mais formal.

Other way would be "responsible for the murder'' (the one to be held responsible for the murder, I mean).
Also ''directly responsible for the murder of...", "the one (X is who) to blame for the murder of.."

Somebody that plotted to murder somebody else by using contract killers/that hired hired contract killers/hitmen et cetera.

cheers !

Thanks for sharing, Jorge. In addition to it, it´s worth noticing that "mastermind" usually goes along with the task/project/doing/plan/activity one´s undertaking, or who he/she is.
That is, the word mastermind is generally, in a way, "explained".

-He masterminded the robbery or
-He was the mastermind of the robbery.
-The criminal in jail is the mastermind of everything.
-Six of the men associated with this attack have been convicted, including the mastermind, Ramzi Yousef.

=======================
Mastermind, though found in the sense of "criminal mastermind" can be used in the positive sense as well:

-He was the mastermind behind the plan.

-The mastermind of this success is national coach Otto Rehhagel, who has been at the helm for almost ten years and at 72 will be the oldest team boss in South Africa.

As for "crime-mentor", if I am not mistaken, it´s a bit of Portuguese in English here.

Indeed the times I saw both words in a sentence or text is to show that mentoring (programs) is a strategy for some adult support and guidance to the youth throghout their development. A mentor then, is supposed to work on enhancing the emotional and social development of (generally) children and adolescents. It´s a modelling of sorts, but it provides caring and support.
They can challenge the negative views hold by the some of the youth may have of themselves, along with demonstrating that living with adults is possible in a satisfactory way. This may also lead them to significant improvement of their relationship with their parents, peers and others adults.
Doing so, it´s also a way of avoiding of providing a role model for them. I conclude from the above said, that staying clear of risk factors as drug, crime and violence, along with trying to engage in a positive social participation is the goal.
