You might also try these options for your short answers. Let's imagine someone asks you if you have any children:

"Do you have any kids?"

aff: "As a matter of fact, I do."
neg: "As a matter of fact, I don't."

"Are you all right?"

aff: "As a matter of fact, I am."
neg: "As a matter of fact, I'm not."

"Have you ever been to Rome?"

aff: "As a matter of fact, I have."
neg: "As a matter of fact, I haven't."

Remember to use the correct auxiliary verb in the short answer part at the end. You could also just use "yes" or "no" after "as a matter of fact" to keep it even shorter!
