Como dizer "não fui capaz de assistir aos jogos" em inglês

Eu quis dizer que: "Eu não fui capaz de assistir aos jogos ultimamente porque eu precisava estudar.

Então formei essa frase:

"I haven't been able to watch the games lately because I needed to study".

Está correto?

I'd only change the end of it by saying "...because I've needed to study" ou "...because I need to study".

I couldn't watch the games lately because I needed to study.

But, "wasn't able to]weren't able to" is more formal that "couldn't".

By the way, it could also be expressed by "Lately I couldn't watch the matches because I was studying/ I was cramming up for an exam", etc.
If I was studying instead of watching those matches, it was because I really needed to! LOL.
