Do you mean as in "The Queen´s Gambit"? A Netflix drama?

Gambit is a sacrificial move in Chess, that is, a chess tactic. It comes from the Italian word "gambetto" (trip). A player then sacrifices material, generally, pawns in an attempt to achieve an advantageous position.

There are other gambits (the King´s gambit, for instance) and countergambits.
The gambit etymology in chess comes from the sentence "dare il gambetto" (something like to 'use the foot to' trip someone up.)
Granted, "trip someone up" would suffice, it is by using the foot, my elaborating like that was just for educational/illustration purpose.

Outside of the realm of chess games, "gambito" could mean "ardil/artimanha" and some synonyms would be:
Trickery.
Ploy.
Ruse.
Stunt.
Gambit.
