So the criminals will go to prison;
So the criminals will end to prison;
So the criminals will end in prison;
So the criminals will end up to prison.

Há diferença entre elas? Prison e Jail tem o mesmo sentido?

Olá Albert,

Pode dizer:
So the criminals will go to prison; - entãos os criminosos vão para a prisão.
So the criminals will end up in prison.

Back to the initial sentence, now with a slangy streak to it:
Doing that, the criminals will end up in the clink.
This way, some of them (criminals) will end up in the clink, others will end up in the hospital, and others won´t see tomorrow (if you catch my drift...)
Muito bom, Paulo!

Mais uma sugestão:

Doing that, the criminals will end up behind bars

Doing that, the criminals will be locked up

I wouldn´t put it this way, namely, wrong. It´s just that it is used as such in European Portuguese, that is.
Somehow Albert learned from that brand of Portuguese...what amuses me, is that his profile says "Luxemburgo" so it would be expected French or German, but then Europe is rather Interconnected!
If he was Brazilian, then I would say that his use of our language was becoming rusty, though.

I think I made a mistake when I thought of it as incorrect. Native speakers of European Portuguese actually use it as naturally as they breathe.

Don´t beat yourself up, Marcio, my buddy. I get myself struggling with British English and its American counterpart, when I am communicating with some British friends (I mean, mostly in writing but that doesn´t makes it easier to me). ;-) Once I addressed some female friends of me slangily as "guys" and they let me know that they wouldn´t like to be thought as guys, ha ha. That´s the disadvantage of learning from everywhere, but with time they got to like my sense of humour, mind you!
