I don´t know of a completely equivalent expression.
But somehow there are "close notions/expressions in that sense" to it.
The most commom one is "err on the side of__", and "err on the side of caution" would be a rather usual expression. Perhaps second to none.
From Oxford Dict. => It is better (for a doctor) to err on the side of caution and follow the most restrictive view of the law.
Or "It´s better err on the safe side"
Anyway, those almost always have a certain ring of "security/safety" about it.

So, it seems like mastering this comes with experience/exposing to the language. Sentences like these have a sense almost equivalent to our "melhor pecar por excesso, do que por falta de."
Entrepreneurs should be erring on the side of over-communicating with their investors.
Always err on the side of giving extra space, instead of too little.
