Break is the general term in the US for taking a few minutes off from work. People have lunch breaks and coffeebreaks. You wouldn't use the word 'recess' for work.
Recess is the word that is used for the children's break from their studies at school: It's a play time, usually outside. Courts and congress also go on recess when they are no longer in session.

This is exactly what Donay meant. "Recreio" refers to children's break at school. For work, we have "intervalos" or even "coffeebreaks" (yes, in English).
In England you can say:
We will talk about it at tea time.
As traditionally companies took a break at around 10:30 am and then again around 3:00 pm. The expression remains highly used even thought tea may not be served.

Engraçado você ter comentado sobre o "tea" louco deles, porque ainda me deixa um pouco perplexa ouvir "What are we having for tea?", enquanto eu penso "mas que tea minha filha, desencana meu!"

''Mr. Whorton, who will be eligible for parole in a year, sat in the prison library at a class break [no recreio] and talked about his participation in the literacy program as he fingered a newspaper, a proud smile on his face.'' [The New York Times]
''Rooms which are open at the class break [no recreio].'' [University of Pittsburgh]
