Granted, here (I play) to keep the tradition of playing alive, the playing runs in the family.
The sentences from the previous comment seem like also able to express a tradition from the time of "my grand grandparents".
That is, it could be the case of they don´t play them, not even the family would play them. Then it would be the music, the playing that would be pleasant and bring back memories of their time. It would be a thing of their community, from their origins, etc.
But I could be mistaken (my reasoning could be flawed), please correct me if I am.

Right, it's ambiguous, it could be that the playing was a family tradition, or just a tradition from where your (great-)grandparents grew up, so a style of music that your (great-)grandparents would have listened to or even danced to at their school ball.PPAULO escreveu: ↑05 Mar 2020, 07:03 I play traditional instruments to preserve the cultural traditions of my grandparents/ancestors.

Thank you for clarifying this for me, Bryan. As always, you come up with good insights.
