I think you're much better off calling it a "toll road." See the variety of names for toll roads in just the United States at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_To ... ted_States.

I could be wrong, but I don't think there's a single Canadian highway called a turnpike. Actually, turnpike is a very old English term associated with paying a toll, but in its modern usage probably most people don't make that association.

Como o Henry disse, é "toll road". E "which" só se usa em caso de pessoas. Eu usaria "four hours via the turnpike, a toll road".

No, I wouldn`t say "which" is used only in relation to people:

This road, which crosses seven states, ends in Florida
This man, who is president, is much respected.
Which candidate will win the election is an open question.
The candidate who wins deserves our praise.

But I wouldn' abbreviate "which is" as "which's." It's not a standard abbreviation you'd put into writing.

Pessoal,

Eu vi esta expressão em uma fonte especializada no ensino da língua inglesa, todavia é sempre bom esta problematização para construirmos o conhecimento.

Thanks a lot!
