And chances are that 'sips' of drinks are 'left behind on glasses' by patrons in restaurants.
My intent is not to exhaust the alternatives, and it is almost impossible. For instance, we could say "não sobrou nada de leite" with "we run out of milk" (in the sense of "está faltando leite, o leite que tinha acabou..." But in yet another context we could express with "there is not enough milk (available) to meet the demand... (it would be an indication that "não sobrou nada, ...tá acabando!".
