Agreed, I would just use a capital E in the word English. But it´s nothing to sweat about.
Oh, yes it is, PPaulo. It is a very basic rule of English grammar. I have read about English teachers who have climbed out of their graves to slap ex-students who do not capitalize the names of languages. LOL
I do believe that it happens, or at least I don´t want to take those chances, ha ha ha!

Hi there Max.
I think many newbies could make confusion with your sentence and think that it could translate it into "Eu tenho estudado inglês por muito tempo" instead of "...há algum tempo." Chances are!
It could be also very appropriate if the sentence was "tenho estudado já faz um tempo" or "...faz já um tempo", or some other similar wording.

Max's translation conveys the same meaning as "I have been studying English for some time." Both describe an ongoing event. Native speakers, however, generally prefer to use the progressive form to emphasize the repetitive nature of the activity.
