Como dizer "tios, em geral" em inglês

fiquei em dúvida, há como dizer tios, em geral? ou usa-se uncles?
Assim como ao dizer irmãos, usamos siblings, o que é usado para 'tios' (não importando se é tiO ou tiA).
obrigada! ;)

Uncles and aunts.

Siblings is very formal and academic. Unless you are a social worker, anthropologist, medical doctor, etc., I suggest you use brothers and sisters.
Actually Thomas, I need an expression to use in scientific paper...
So, should I use uncle and aunts?? any general expression??

Would "avuncular" fit in ?

Avuncular refers to maternal uncles. It is extremely academic and I doubt that one person in a hundred would understand anyway/

I would suggest sticking to "aunts and uncles".

Clarity in English is much more important than in Portuguese (my personal opinion). Compare, for example, the length of sentences in English and Portuguese. English sentences tend to be much shorter and much easier to comprehend that those in Portuguese. It is more than language; it is culture.
