Hehehe). Assim, seu exemplo ficaria: That's not a mobile phone; it's a hulk of a phone!
Segundo o Cambridge Dictionary:
Hulk noun [C] (AWKWARD)
1. The body of an old ship, car, or very large piece of equipment that is broken and no longer used
2. A large, heavy, awkward person or thing:
Henry's a real hulk of a man.
That's it!

Olá, Marcelo!
Muito obrigado pela sugestão e pela aula.
Eu pesquisei e cheguei a "piece of work", mas creio que sua sugestão caiba melhor no conto. Valeu!

In the case of old old cellphones (think of Motorola of 1984), you could call it a "brick".
To more recent cellphone, you could say it's a 'junky cellphone" or with words like rubbishy, shoddy, But if want to be polite with your Nokia your can take a softer tack and call it just "archaic/'prehistoric/old-timey" or say that "it is on its way out". Be nice with that old worn out guy!
