Anyway it´s ill-advisable, it´s better you put it in the Brazilian way (when the answer comes, how our mail boys will know? They are used to our Brazilian system)
On the face that it´s the foreign buddy/person you might write the adress in the U.S. Way.

*Bairro, it seems that another day that question on adresses was raised, and Dale had
Answered it. If memory serves me well, bairro is a nonexistent entity in English. Its lacking in mail correspondence is supplied by the zip code. Sometimes they put "district" again, if I remember well.
I have here some (ads enclosed in mags) business reply mail where it reads:
NAME_(some of them have SIGNATURE as well)
ADRESS_(some has Street and in the same line Apt)

Por exemplo: Rua Cristovão Colombo, 543 apartamento 204.
Seria: 543/204 Cristóvão Colombro Street?
Mr. John Smith
543 Rua Cristovão Colombo - Apt.# 204.
92322 = zipcode/CEP
So this is more or less the pattern in English speaking countries.
