Como explicar regra do "To be" para alguém que fala inglês?

I have a friend, he's an English Speaker and is trying to learn portuguese.
I need your help guys, to make my friend understand that in portuguese "I'm" for example has two meanings!

estar - usually temporary things, like hunger, emotions, etc. Estou com fome. "I'm hungry (I'm with hunger)"

ser - usually permanent things, like characteristics, etc. Sou alto. "I'm tall"
