Como utilizar a palavra "Vacation" (Férias) em inglês

Estou tendo algumas dúvidas na hora de falar sobre férias.
Se eu quiser falar eu fui pra Austrália nas férias:
I went to Australia for vacation.
I went on vacation to Australia.
Qual está certa?
E se eu quiser falar que já estive em algum lugar nas férias:
I have been to USA for vacation.
I have gone on vacation to USA.
Qual está certa?
E em último caso, como eu posso falar eu já vim aqui antes nas férias?

1a) Could be "I have been once"...but you use "have been" to mean "life-long events" where in opposition to the word "never". That is, answering the question "have you ever been to...? " and in answer to the question "where have you been?" (now referring to a recent past).
1b) Notice that you can say I have been to the United States twice/many times etc on vacation.
2) Other possibility to use "gone" (rather than been) is if you mean someone have gone somewhere and has not returned yet. (which can not be the case when referring to yourself.) Gone could also have a more definite sense to it.
