Convict x Condemn: Qual a diferença?

"Both men have been condemned to life imprisonment."
"Both men have been convicted to life imprisonment."

"Fifty rebels were condemned to death."
"Fifty rebels were convicted to death."

I'd like to know the difference between these two above, I've concluded by reading the definition in the dictionaries that "To convict" means "to condemn" in a court, in other words, It would be a verb more commom in law vocabulary, but I don't know I'm right, and if you guys could help me, I'd be grateful, thank you all! :D

You're right, Junior. The men and rebels who were condemned might not have had a trial or gone through any kind of legal process. It could have been a unilateral decision made by a military chief. Those who were convicted were found guilty by a jury or a judge in a court of law.

Hey there!

Alguém saberia me informar a diferença entre Convict e Condemn? Assim como Convict (substantivo) e Condemnation.

Procurei no Google mas o que encontrei foram muitos textos religiosos abordando ambas, sem nenhum enfoque no inglês.

Thanks in advance! ;)
