Correção de frase: "First song I listened..."

A sentença está realmente um pouco confusa. Para podermos te ajudar melhor, o que você queria dizer em português?

A kick-off guesswork of mine:

It was the first time in a year I was able to listen a song/a tune.
(perhaps you have had an hectic life this year, so no time to stop and listen to songs...)

It was the first time in a year I could listen a song/a tune. (same as above, or maybe you had some hearing problem and now you can hear the sounds again.)

Since the questions don't broaden to a given direction they may or may not get the right answer, may lead to ambiguity, etc.
