O verbo stop obriga o verbo seguinte estar no gerundio, não ?

O verbo to stop pode ser seguido pelo infinitivo ou gerúndio:
I stopped to smoke.
Eu parei para fumar.
Eu estava andando na rua e parei para fumar um cigarro.
I was walking down the street and stopped to smoke a cigarette.
I stopped smoking.
Eu parei de fumar.
Eu tinha o hábito de fumar, mas agora não vou fumar mais.
Neste caso, você usa o gerúndio.
