Correção de frase "There were delicious candies"

This is a really good question. In fact, both forms are correct. The word "candy" works in the singular as well as the plural, like the word "food":

There was fabulous food at the party, including the dessert afterwards, as well as the candy for the children.

There were different and wonderful kinds of food, dessert and candy at the party.

The foods I like do not include candies.

He thinks candies are food.
