Correção de frases com earn, living, pen, novel etc

Hello,

I'm reading a english book and taking notes the words that I don't know. With them noted, I'm writing phrases with ten different words to learn the vocabulary. I wrote the phrases below and I'd like to know if they're correct and the translations. I'd like to know if there're grammar errors too. Thanks

1. To earn
a) Paul earns his living playing guitar.
b) Carol earned her house last week.
c) Carl deserves a well-earned rest.

2. Living
a) I get by my living as a techer.
b) I can't help this way of living.
c) Carl has a boring living that he's called by 'the guy who lives in poverty'.

3. To pen
a) I pen essays every weekend.
b) Penning is what I'm focused now.
c) I found out that I'm nuts when I realized that I can't stop penning while I talk to people.

4. Novel
a) I prefer novels to newspapers.
b) Animal's farm is a great novel at literature.
c) Besides my essays, I often write novels.

5. Essay
a) Now, I'm used to penning great books but I started to write essays.
b) There is a George Orwell's book that has a lot of his essays.
c) Essays is the first step to be a writer.

6. Hate
a) He's a man of fierce hates.
b) You should control your hates.
c) Get rid of your hates and be a nice person.

7. Fierce
a) All in all we're just fierce men.
b) Run! The fierce animals are following us!
c) You should stop to think about the fierce totalitarianism.

8. Besides
a) He has no family besides his parents.
b) Besides her boyfriend, she has two other guys.
c) T-shirts, jeans pants, skirts and besides on sale!
d) I don't want to do it. Really. Besides, I should be at home now.

9. Poverty
a) I was face to face to poverty when I was a child.
b) These kids shouldn't be here. Look at this poverty!
c) I hope on day poverty has been eradicated.

10. First-hand
a) Look at this paper! What do you think about this first-hand experience about helping poverty?
b) I can't help hitting on her first-hand.
c) Why don't you tell him first-hand?

I've written many phrases below and I'd like to know if they're correct. I really want to know if there're grammar mistakes too. Thank you.

A) Now, I'm used to pen great books but I started to write essays.
B) There is a book of George Orwell that has a lot of his/its essays. - Exige detalhes. Os ensaios são do George Orwell certo? Se for do livro tem que usar "its".
C) Essays is the first step to be a writer.

6. Hate
A) He's a man of fierce hates.
B) You should control your hates.
C) Get rid of your hates and be a nice person.

7. Fierce
A) All in all we're just fierce men.
B) Run! Those fierce animals are chasing us!
C) You should stop to think about the fierce totalitarianism.

8. Besides
A) He doesn't have a family besides his parents.
B) Besides her boyfriend, she has two other guys.
C) T-shirts, jeans, pants, skirts and besides on sale!
D) I really don't want to do it. Besides, I should be at home now.

9. Poverty
A) I had been facing off the poverty when I was a child.
B) These children shouldn't be here. Look at this poverty!
C) I hope the poverty will have been eradicated one day.

10. First-hand/At first
A) Look at this paper! What do you think about this first-hand experience about helping poverty?
B) I can't help her/him/it/someone by hitting on her first-hand. - Exige detalhes, qual prefere usar: "Her", "him", "it", "someone" ou outro?
C) At first why don't you tell him?
