The city's sanitation company managed to reduce by 50% the theft of manhole cover or sewage grates. The vandals used to take 10 pieces every week. Each one cost R$ 250,00 to the city according to the sewage system manager. This reduction was due to the changing made of the iron cover to concrete.
According to the maneger, only the center of the city will ramain having cover made of iron. That is because it is more dificult to steal them as the streets are more busy.

According to the manager, the iron covers will remain only in the city center because it is more difficult to steal them as the *streets are generally busier.

*And in many cities there are surveillance systems (CCTV) downtown.
