The hotel was originated in parallel with the development of the trade between the towns. The trade routes in Asia, Europe and Africa, in the century age (qual é a versão em português?), gave rise to urban centers and consequently the arise of hostels to serve the travellers who passed by there. In the middle age, monasteries also were used to host the travellers. Hosting, back then was a moral and spiritual virtue. The thermal springs were foundational for the arising of the hotel business. The belief in the therapeutic and curative properties of the water took people to look for these places, and it encouraged people to make more rooms to host the visitors.
The hospitality as a business, arose only at the end of the XVIII century with the industrial revolution and the evolution of capitalism.
