I will just provide a whole new translation based off of the portuguese text.

A cuban family that lives in the United States. The family mainly consists of a divorced seen-it all (I'm not so sure what was actually meant by "veterana de guerra" but I'm going go with this) mother. She raised/raises her teenage daughter and her younger son with the help of her mother who is very religious. There's also a a friend family named Schneider. The remake of the original sitcom addresses important issues such as mental illness, immigration, homophobia, racism which are dealt with by latinos who live in the United States.

I would suggest "the family consists of a midlife divorced woman/a seasoned divorced woman who raised a teenage daughter and a younger son. All that with the help of her mother, a very religious person.

But then, I learned that it was about Netflix´s show One Day at a Time. A remake of the ODAAT aired formerly on CBS.

So, it´s about a family of Cuban immigrants which consists of a military veteran (a recently/newly divorced mother) who raises her two children - a teenage daughter plus a pre-adolescent boy. All that with the help of their (illiberal - but involved and passionate about life) religious grandmother.
There is also another character: Schnider, a friend of the family - he is son of the landlord and the superintendent of the building (síndico/administrador) and gradually turns into a father figure to the children.

An aside note: this wasn´t a review and polishing of the text, Leonardo has already dealth with it. It is just a commentary, since I had already got puzzled with the "veteran" thingun and then learned there was two versions of the sitcom. Both, with good plots.

A Cuban family that lives in America and consists of a divorced war veteran mother. She has raised her teenager daughter and her younger son with the help of her very religious mother. She has a family friend named Schneider.
The remake of the original comedy approaches important (or major) issues such as mental disorder, immigration, homophobia, racism, etc, faced by the Latinos living in America.

Até mais!
Hi guys! Eu estou falando do seriado One Day at a time que tem na Netflix. No seriado fala veterana por isso coloque esta palavra.

Okay, that´s okay. The sitcom plot is about a "veterana" it´s that we thought it was in the sense of "people with years of experience under their belt". I then changed my mind when I learned it was about the said sitcom.
