Diferentes usos de Pretérito Imperfeito em inglês

Hi everybody ! Thanks in advance.

I was speaking with a friend, when I got stuck while trying to say a couple of simple sentences.
This happened because os the lack of the tense "Pretérito Imperfeito" in English.

Just for context. I was talking about my research in University, which is done under the guidance of a professor.
The sentences were something like that:

O meu professor sempre mexia no texto que eu escrevia.
Toda vez que eu levava o texto pra ele, ele mexia em um monte de coisas.

The best options I could find, after thinking a while were:

My Professor was always modifying the texts I wrote.
Everytime I showed him the text, he would change a lot of things.

Doubts:
1: I coudn't find good translations for 'mexer', and 'levava' so I changed the words to make it more natural..
2: Main doubt: How to translate this tense? Cause I'm not satisfyied with my try, especially using the simple past on 'wrote' and 'showed'.

What would be your best attempt on translating it?

Thank you, folks!

Marcel

MarcelAT,

Algumas sugestões:

O meu professor sempre mexia no texto que eu escrevia.
My teacher always changed the texts I wrote.

Everytime I showed him a text, he changed a lot of things.

=> "Mexer" é um termo bastante contextual, que, neste caso, equivale a "mudar"/"alterar". Existem inúmeras possibilidades para se dizer "mexer" em inglês; tudo depende do contexto.

=> Sim, "show" é uma boa opção. Quer dizer que os textos "chegaram" até ele, mesmo que pela internet.

=> Este tempo verbal é comumente expresso com as formas do past simple e, é claro, dentro de um contexto.

Toda vez que eu chegava lá, ela sumia.
Every time I arrived there, she disappeared.

Eles sempre ficavam com raiva quando isto acontecia.
They always got angry when it happened.

Ex.: My Professor used to modify the texts I wrote.

a tradução literal ficaria "Meu professor costumava modificar os textos que eu escrevi."
