"Different from" x "Different than": Qual é o certo?

Olá, podem me ajudar? Esta é a primeira vez que pergunto no fórum. Então vai lá:
Estava lendo um texto de um broadcasting (Spotlight.com.br) e me deparei com seguinte frase:
"But where can you start? Tolerance.org says that the first step to changing your community is to
change yourself! You can change the way you speak about people who are different than you. You can also change the way you think about people who are different than you. Do you have an opinion about a particular group of people? These opinions are biases. They can negatively influence your actions in your community."
A minha pergunta é:
Poderia substituir o primeiro trecho sublinhado por "is changing yourself" e sobre o segundo trecho sublinhado, não lembro de já ter visto assim, e sim "different from you".

But where can you start? Tolerance.org says that the first step to changing your community is by changing yourself! You can change the way you speak about people who are different than you. (Nothing unusual here. Commonly used.)

I should add that "different from" is also possible.

Eu sugiro também:
"Different than" é comumente usado nos EUA. Você poderia usar, de uma forma geral, "different from".
Ex.: Our sons are very different from each other. (Longman)

Confesso que apesar de ver ambas, sempre preferi "different from". Existe pelo menos tres casos com "differ-"
adjetivo: this is different from that / this is different than saying
verbo: this differs from that / this differs from saying
substantivo: the difference between saying this and that
Somente no primeiro caso me parece razoável o uso de "than"
adjetivo: this is different from that / this is different than saying
verbo: this differs from that / this differs from saying

Nunca se usa to antes de uma palavra com -ing no final, ok? :S
