Dificuldade com o sotaque de Lancashire

Boas companheiros!!!

Logo ali no aeroporto, vi-me obrigado a pedir algumas informações a um mancunian. I need something to cheer me up!!!!

Obrigado!!!

Mauro,

There are a lot of differences with accents in GB. As you go further North it is stronger. There is a huge difference locally between, say for example, Manchester and Liverpool. There are many historical influences over the whole of GB. Lancashire was, also, famous for the cotton industries, just look at the map and see how many football teams there are. My best advice is, always say "Please" and "Thank you", which will void 99% of any problem. Then ask "Please, speak slowly" or say "I did not understand". The Lancashire people are so great . Have a great day out to St. Helens. Go over the mountains and see my team Leeds, but be careful about that one as the counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire were at war with each other for 100 years. Look up the War of the Roses. Seriously, just rivalry these days. For me, there are great people both sides of the Pennines. Have fun and enjoy, laugh off what you do not understand, but the best part is that Lancashire is the leader in music and fashion, 6 months ahead of London. Go for it send me a msg if you need any help.

Thanks for your answers and advices, Erik the Dane! I will try to visit these places and follow your tips.

I don´t have much experience with the Brit(ish) English, but I think Erik learned the ropes and shared the secret with us. Perhaps some TV programs, listening some radio, seeing something on Youtube (from local guys, I mean) is of help too. And some interaction as well.
Just a little correction if I may: "thanks for your answer [*] and advice [**], Erik the Dane!

[*] because there was just one answer from Erik, and
[**] for ''advice" is an uncountable noun - it can be "piece of advice" to mean it in singular way (um conselho).

Obviously, it´s just for information´s sake, I know you know way more English than I do. Sometimes we are in haste and details really play a trick on us!
Thanks to you, PPaulo! Feel free to correct me! And you´re wrong: Im sure my English isn't better than your. In fact, Ive bought a huge amount of kindle ebooks/audio narrated by british. But when it comes to Lancashire accents there is not much choice. As i said, I dont have much time to go out and meet people. I'm looking forward to finish my thesis so as to have time for some practice. Im sure I will master it because I love it and Im not a lazy guy.

I´ll keep my fingers crossed for you, buddy. I know how demanding college studies are, although I dropped out in the very beginning. Anyway, I know you will work it out.

One more little corretion, please consider changing '"british" by British (capital B), whether you mean the people, the nationality adjective or the language (British English).
