Fat chances that it is there, your listening muscles aren´t used to it. There´s a technique to let you "make it" better, by slowing it down. Bryan Philppot came up with this brilliant idea a month ago.

Haha eu cheguei a diminuir a velocidade e não sei se ouvi o que queria ou o que foi falado, mas continuei sem ouvir o "the". Contudo acredito que você esteja certo, ainda me falta malemolência na hora de ouvir palavras que se misturam por pressa ou para facilitar a fala

Once (some time ago, okay eons ago) I took a conversation course, I got rusty now. The fact is, we had a "music time" there, one day a song was played (if memory serves me well was Madonna). There was a word that I couldn't quite catch, even after the teacher´s effort to get us "listening".

But it happened I just couldn't, others got there, don´t know how. So I can relate.
Obviously, with time and practice we develop the skill, but there will be cases that it´s the singer's diction, not the listener´s fault, believe me.

Another reminder that the captions frequently are not exactly what they're saying...

"It's all yours..." I need a longer audio and more context.

"Would you mind closing the blinds?" - The the is there. It would not be grammatically correct to remove it.

"Ever had any numbness on one side before?" is what I hear in that mp3. "Have you" is frequently omitted in questions like this in conversation.

"Give me / Gimme the syringe." I hear gimme at first. Tough to tell without slowing down. He might just have a really soft v, and pronounce it so quickly it's more like givme.

"I'm not letting you go till you give me / gimme that syringe" - I'm pretty sure I hear the "give" with a v here.
