"to listen to" poderia se entendida pela primeira e " To be listening to" se encaixaria na segunda .

I believe you confused "à escuta" with "à espreita" and "à disposição".

- [à espreita]
You should read: como-dizer-estar-a-espreita-em-ingles-t39088.html

- [à disposição para atendimento / para chamada / para serviço]
You should read: como-dizer-precisando-estarei-a-sua-dis ... t9602.html
_

A- [à espreita]

1.There is a great silence in the area.
There is a great silence in the air.
There is a great silence lurking around.

In a figurative language, we could have said "There is a great silence which can be listened to". By the way, I've just remembered a song calledListen to the Silence by Bruce Hornsby and the Range. "The silence that can be listened to".

B- [à escuta]

The expression estar à escuta means:
(1) to be available to be listened to;
(2) to listen to something / someone precisely;
(3) To be eavesdropped.

>> The teachers keep in touch with the students.

The teachers are in touch with the students.

The teachers are listening to the students.
[Os professores estão escutando os alunos].
[Os professores estão prestando atenção aos alunos].

>> Can you hear me?
[Consegue me ouvir? / Na escuta?]

>> If she calls, we'll be listening.
[Se ela telefonar, nós escutaremos].
[Se ela ligar, estaremos à escuta].

>> I'll just have to keep an ear out for them, I guess.
[Acho que terei de prestar atenção neles].
[Acho que terei de escutá-los].
[Então terei de estar à escuta].

>> We are working on some new songs, so keep an ear out for those.
Nós estamos trabalhando em algumas canções novas, então fique ligado nessas / naquelas.

To keep an ear out for someone / something
(idiom)
- to be prepared to hear someone or something.

>> I should apologize for eavesdropping, but I'm glad I listened.

I wascreading this poetry:

O silêncio (Mario Quintana)

Há um grande silêncio que está sempre à escuta...
E a gente se põe a dizer inquietamente qualquer coisa,
Qualquer coisa, seja o que for,
E cala.

I've already explained it to you, but it seems or you didn't read it or you didn't accepted my answer at all.

Poem and poetry are nouns, however:

- Poem = Poema
- Poetry = Poesia [a arte; o gênero]
_

4th: As a matter of organization, please everytime when you have questions related to a specific poem, I ask you to write all of them down on the same post. I believe it will be easier to comprehend the context and avoid unecessary discussions.

The silence is considered as a fictional character who is paying attention to something. Here, we have a figure of speech called Personification (Personificação (PT) ou Prosopopeia (PT-BR)). Because of that, I still keep my words regarding on the first line of Mário Quintana's poem:

>> There is a great silence which is always listening to (something)...
>> There is a great silence who is always keeping an ear out for (something)...

5th: I've found some websites where we can read some of Quintana's poems in English. I hope you enjoy it!
