Eu vi uma postagem no instagram com essa seguinte frase: "was my first step towards peace", eu queria saber o porquê desta frase não usar o "it". Por exemplo: "it was my first step towards peace".
Pode me dizer outros exemplos que tomam essa estrutura gramatical?

Perhaps the sentence you read on Instagram was "letting go was my first step towards peace.", this one sentence would be right.
And also, If you had mentioned in sentences or in a text what such a step was, you could omit the "it". I mean, if you have already have given information enough to the reader know what "it" would replace.
The sentence without anything to clue the reader (like the one you came up with) would be just a dangling sentence, wrong because it was lacking the subject.
