Falsos Cognatos: Natal

Por incrível que pareça, "natal" pode ser uma palavra inglesa, mas ela não se refere ao nascimento de cristo ou às festividades que acompanham a data (Christmas). "Natal", como termo inglês, é formal/técnico e se refere a um lugar ou época de origem.

Exemplo: "Green turtles return to their natal island to breed." [Tartarugas verdes retornam para sua ilha de origem para reproduzirem.]

Very similar to Portuguese, also. We need to remember that in our language, "Natal" can have this meaning too ;)

Dio, you might have thought of recasting that sentence into something like this:

"Thanks for improving my..."

Because the word Thanks will normally take the preposition for with an -ing form after it. As a matter of fact, most prepositions will take an -ing form after them.
