"Hung" não pode vir acompanhado de "was"?
Em diferentes trechos do livro que estou lendo, observo que as frases "estava pendurado"/"que estava pendurado" são escritas em inglês sem o verbo "to be" precedendo:
1- It hung on a chain around his neck;
2- As he hung by his leg from a tree;
3- An old man hung there.
Dúvida: Não se usa "was hung", em inglês?

Red, I think the major problem he has is differentiating transitive vs. Intransitive uses, not the irregular past tense.
Transitive:
Active: The children hung ornaments on the Christmas tree.
Passive: The ornaments were hung on the Christmas tree by the children.
Intransitive:
The ornaments hung on the Christmas tree.
Transitive:
Active: He hung it on a chain around his neck.
Passive: It was hung on chain around his neck.
Intransitive:
It hung on a chain around his neck.
Transitive:
Active: The children hung ornaments on the Christmas tree.
Passive: The ornaments were hung on the Christmas tree by the children.
Intransitive:
The ornaments hung on the Christmas tree.
Transitive:
Active: He hung it on a chain around his neck.
Passive: It was hung on chain around his neck.
Intransitive:
It hung on a chain around his neck.
POWER QUESTIONS
To hang has transitive and intransitive definitions. These are intransitive examples.
To be hung would be the passive voice of the transitive definition.

Irmão, o passado deste verbo (hang) possui uma particularidade que nem a física quântica explica. Eu diria que ele ainda está em processo de auto-identificação para poder se afirmar como IRREGULAR ou REGULAR... Ainda se lê por ai formas como: Hung, be+hung e be+hanged. De toda sorte meu consagrado, eu o aconselharia a usa-lo como aparece nestes trechos do livro apresentado sempre que a intençao for de dizer que algo/alguem foi ou estava pendurado/suspenso, EXCETO quanto for referir a alguem que foi enforcado até a morte, quando sempre será WAS/WERE HANGED.

Sobre algo que "foi pendurado" por alguém = was hung;
Sobre algo que simplesmente "estava pendurado" no contexto = hung.
Essa forma de analisar ficou compatível com todas as frases apresentadas nesse tópico e na sua resposta
