Atyand, gramaticalmente sua sentença está perfeita, mas só uma ressalva quanto ao que você quer realmente dizer.
Na sua frase original o sentido é mais de uma opinião que você tem a respeito da demolição da casa, isto é, você acha que que a casa não deve ser destruída por ser antiga e ter valor histórico, mas não fica claro se isso já aconteceu, está prestes a acontecer, ou ainda vai acontecer. É mais uma opinião.
Já na sugestão apontada pelo Donay fica claro que a casa já foi derrubada e que você é contrário a isso.
Ou seja, a sua frase está correta e a do Donay também, mas elas possuem diferenças em relação à assertividade temporal.

Fábio, I would explain it differently. I don't think it's an issue of personal opinion. The issue is one of mismatch of time frames between two statements.
"They should not pull down..." must mean the action has not yet taken place. Therefore it must be followed by "It is..."
Similarly, "They should not have pulled down..." must mean it was pulled down. Therefore it must be followed by "It was..."
This was the logic intrinsic in Donay's revision.
