Not to ever X Never to: Qual é o correto?

At another language discussion forum, which the owner resolved to shut down about a couple of months ago, I read the following sentence:

"You behaved stupidly when you took your sister’s book again after she told you not to ever touch her belongings."

From within the sentence I noticed the construction "not to ever." That got me wondering whether a simple "never to" might not have sounded better. What do the forum users say?

I don't know about sounding better. "Not to ever" is meant to be as emphatic as you can get, to underscore the stupid behaviour, that's all. Regards
