O que significa "grounds of grossness" ?

Olá pessoal!
Estou com dificuldades de traduzir a frase abaixo:
If the floor is filthy, then the rule is invalid on the grounds of grossness anyway.
Contexto: está falando sobre alimentos que caem no chão e as pessoas comem antes dos cinco segundos (regra dos cinco segundos). Em superfície lisa fica mais contaminada ainda.
dúvida: grounds of grossness seria metafórico, já que só conheço grossness como descortesia ou grosseria?
