O uso de "That that" = "Que aquele"?

Hey people!

Eu estou escrevendo um texto, e redigi a seguinte frase:

But when I stared the third box I knew that that pair of shoes would change my life for the rest of my days.

2) Aproveitando o tópico, o verbo "to stare" nesse caso está bem empregado?

Thanks in advance!

Dependendo da estrutura da frase, "that that" pode se tornar indispensável:

That that was not the answer, he knew very well. (necessário)
He knew very well that was not the answer.

That was not the answer, he knew very well.
That was not the answer, as he very well knew.
That was not the answer he knew very well. = There was another answer well known to him, which was not the one he was observing in this case.

So "that that" has its uses.

Great simplification! Making things simple makes for good writing.

Henry Cunha escreveu:O uso de "that that" pode parecer estranho, mas é igual ao uso de "that this", "that those", etc.

I know that man.
I know that man is fallible. = I now man is fallible.
I know that that man is fallible.

I know that this works. = I know this works.
I know that these match. = I know these match.
Então é correto usar "that that" ?

Com relação ao verbo to stare, tem de usar at. No caso da sua frase: but when I stared at the third box...
Quanto ao that that, acho que só um that é o suficiente.
