I thin this is a good idea, but it requires planning. What topic do you suggest for a first meeting? If you come up with a plan, I would be willing to open my virtual classroom. It holds places for up to 200 participants. But I am not good at thnking on my feet (=thinking fast, hinking without a script, being spontaneous), so if we don't have a plan, it could be disappointing.

I am open to suggestions for topics and ways to interact together. My room lets us use a microphone, whiteboard, share powerpoints and watch yutube videos. You have to have a fast internet connection or it does not work.

Any creative planners out there?

Flavia, so you had a hell of a lot of hard work teaching chatters not English--but how to use Google. Better luck next time!

I think I will, nonetheless, give accessing the forum's chatroom a try. That'll probably take me back to the times I used to chat on IRC channels.

Actually, teaching how to use the blog and forum. Most of their questions were already answered here, but they didn't know it.

That's true.
Flavi taught me how to use the glorious finder in the EE website.
But, I'd just love to have one of those virtual classes with Mary. I'm completely game for that.
I suggest asking her what day would be the best for her classroom and I my idea for the first
topic is global warming. It might be boring to some people, but well, I quite like it and could be very interesting.Just an idea,
Achei legal a ideia da Flávia. Apesar de conhecer o EE por muito tempo, eu não participava do forum e nem do chat. Gostaria de poder ajudar. Vou entrar mais vezes no chat e ajudar as pessoas por lá.

See you.

fico no aguardo galera!

peace!

Let's collect materials on global warming and create a collaborative powerpoint that we can use as a basis of a virtual class.

Please post your information (pictures, facts) to this slide show.
https://docs.google.com/present/edit?id ... cmN4&hl=en

Add a slide with information you have gathered. We can use only copyright free materials such as from wikipedia and government documents, and pictures in the public domain or with community commons copyright.

This collaborative document will be the basis of our English class. Participants will be prepared to present their information suring a live wiziq session moderated by Mary.

It should be visible and editable to everyone with the link, but if you need an invitation to view the slideshow, pm me here on the blog, please.

The knowledge of the community is greater than most individuals in it. Presenting live will be a great opportunity to practice your speaking skills. Participating in a live session will be an opportunity to practice your listening, reading, and writing skills while expanding your vocabulary, depending on your level of proficiency.

I will need two co-moderators during the live session. Everyone will need headsets and a free account at http://www.wiziq.com to participate.
pretty idea mary! thanks for the assist and attention...
ill wait for it xD

Dublack--

It is not sufficient to just "wait" for it. Everyone has to go to the google persentation (collaborative powerpoint online) and add information about the topic global warming.

This is a collaborative venture were the participants (learners) do the research and post their findings to the google presentation.https://docs.google.com/present/edit?id ... cmN4&hl=en

There are 71,000 readers of the blog. I am not sure how many readers there are registered in the forum, but certainly many. so far, no one had added any information to the google presentation.

I have invited in a comment on today's blog post https://www.englishexperts.com.br/curso ... os-indice/ Alessandro, Donay, and Adir to co-facilitate with me. I hope they read the comment and will say yes.

So far this class is just an idea because no one is participating in the preparation. It is up to you readers if you want to make it a reality.
uma idéia bem legal vamos fazer como ??

Mary, I've done something of what you proposed but there are some parts in the power point that I just don't know if I'm allowed to express my opinion or if I should write something impartial.
Could you have a look at it , please?

Ow, and I've made an account on the website you'd mentioned.
Shall I wait till you open the online class and then confirm my attendance:?
What is the role of a co-moderator? I'd like to help, but I'm not
sure whether I'll be capable to.

Mary, I have some ideas:

for example

if you go to the webpage: http://http://www.esl-lab.com/elem/elemsc1.htm

you will find a lot of dialogues and for example I chose this easy one:

Randall: Hello. Today I'm interviewing Joshua on his experiences going to a Japanese school. Now Joshua, what time do you go to school?
Joshua: Eight O'clock.

Randall: Eight O'clock. And do you go by yourself, or on a school bus?

Joshua: No, I have a group that goes with me.

Randall: So you go with a group?

Joshua: Uh-huh.

Randall: Now what kinds of things do you take to school?

Joshua: I take my taiso fuku, that is gym clothes, and I take my backpack and my books [ Oh, okay. ] and stuff like that.

Randall: Okay and what is the first thing you do when you get to school?

Joshua: We do "kiritsu, rei."

Randall: "Kiritsu" and "rei." Now what are those?

Joshua: It means "stand up, bow."

Randall: Stand up and bow.

Joshua: Uh-huh.

Randall: And what do you study at school?

Joshua: We study kokugo, that is writing and reading and stuff like that [ Okay ], and sansu, that's math. [ Okay. ]. And, let's see . . . , we do gym too.

Randall: Okay, and where do you eat lunch? Do you have a lunchroom or cafeteria?

Joshua: No, we eat in our classroom.

Randall: You eat in your classroom! [ Yeah. ]. Oh wow. That is very interesting. Now what time do you come home from school?

Joshua: We come home sometimes at 3:00 and sometimes at 2:00.

Randall: Okay, well thank you very much Joshua.

Joshua: You're welcome.

...

So Mary all the students can listen to this dialogue at the webpage above and then they can go to the class with you, introduce themselves and after that you could ask some people to read the dialogue, then make some questions and try to see if you can make everybudy speaks...at least answering or making questions: ones to anothers....

I think this website is fantastic, because there are so many dialogues and you can chose between easy, medium and difficult and anyone can listen at it any day anytime...

or you could for example sign up for free lessons from Englishtown.com and ask everybody else to do the same then pick a dialogue and work on this one.

or another option would be for example I can mail you a lesson from learn real english and you can ask some people to read the dialogue, then ask others to read the mini story lessons, and the others will answer the questions...there are so many questions....

I am writing it too fast, so if I missed something or if you did not understand it, just ask me....I am here to learn and help as well

thanks

Update on the google presentation collaborative powerpoint.

Several people have made additions. When it is done and Alesandro is available (and Adir and Donay, if they can help) I will schedule the calss at wiziq.

Role of the co-modrators: Alessandro and Adir have a lot of experience hosting padcasts. The role of the moderator in a live session is to give people the microphone and writing tools, if they need the whiteboard to write on the board. That role falls to me because only one person can pass the mic the way it is set up at wiziq. I will give all the co-moderators mics.

The co-moderators will host the show. They will call on participants to present the material they have created in the powerpoint. They will make comments on the presentations, ask questions of the audience maybe or do whatever they think is a good class.

Because the show will be recorded, it is imperative (necessary) that all pictures be taken only from the public domain such as government sites, or be community commons licensed (wikimedia commons has free pictures). Same with any material that we use: it has to be from a free or share-alike community commons licensed resource such as wikipedia, wiknews, wiki educator, wikiversity, etc.

Therefore, although the dialogs from http://http://www.esl-lab.com/elem/elemsc1.htm are indeed fantastic and even catagorized by proficiency level, since they are copyrighted, we cannot use them in a wiziq session.

I am very pleased that a good start has been made. feel free to create as many slides as you need to express the information and ideas that you want to speak about.

The methodology that I usually follow when creating a lesson plan is:
1. go over vocabulary related to the topic
2. listen to the learners' presentation of their information
3. let people discuss what was presented (using the mic, ask questions of the presenter or make comments)
4. some kind of endproduct where we practice the new language forms we have learned or heard, if we already knew them: (debate of the pros and cons of global warming, or role play of a developer who wants to destroy protected regions in order to build a hotel and shopping mall, (or other situations that can be role-played), or another activity that you readers think of as a production activity).

So, far it is coming along nicely. Great collaboration. Feel free to participate, if you have not yet begun. It is located here:

Mili these are all great resources but these resources are copyrighted. We may not use copyrighted materials in the live sessions at wiziq because they will be recorded and archived on the internet, which would be the same as illegaly distributing the material. If you get permission to use the material from the authors, then you can use them.

That is why I suggested that we create our own powerpoint with our own, original material.

Update on the live session to practice speaking with the moderators.

I am not sure when we can schedule this online meeting.
I don't want to do it without Alessandro, so we have to continue to be patient until he has time to join us.

Thank you very much Pkdbz for the translations.
