May I suggest real life-related questions such as "How does driving in São Paulo city affect you?" or "What if Earth had the same size as Jupiter or what if Jupiter had all the Earh-like conditions that made human life possible there, how long it would take a human being to fly on a jet plane from one pole to the other on Jupiter etc" Sorry, I love all those Nasa articles on distant planets and interplanetary travels!

Questions about Movies & TV.

E.g.:
What are the names of Angelina Jolie’s twins?

Knox Léon Jolie-Pitt e Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt (Nice, França, 12 de julho de 2008) are the names of the two biological children of Angelina Jolie ...

Hello Everyone,

My suggestion is a question everyone eventually asks:

Where did we come from, and where are we going?

All the best,
I think an interesting question that can generate some discussion is:

What is your favourite city or region in Brazil and why?

People should then write about what makes that particular city or region interesting, attractive, beautiful, etc and maybe put some links to sites with photos of the place.
Just wanted to say this section is a very good idea as it encourages the members to try and write in English.

It does not matter if they make mistakes, it is about the thought process.

Hopefully many more will participate. I can imagine that it may be a bit intimidating for some to try to write even a few lines that many people are going to read. So this is a good place to do it.

Again, very good idea.

Another suggestion: (idea is to get people to describe one subject with as many attributes as they can)

- Describe your favourite dish or food. Use as many attributes as you can to describe it.

Ex.
I love peaches.
Peaches are soft and juicy with a yellowish-red skin.
Peaches can be tangy but when ripe they are as sweet as honey.
Peaches burst with intense flavour when you bite into them.
I love peaches on their own or baked in a pie, or made into ice cream, they are simply divine.

Another kinda funny: "Why Does Pluto Live in a dog house, eat dog food, etc. but Goofy, who is also a dog, lives in a condo and drives a car?"
if pluto is a dog, and mickey is a mouse, why pluto doesn´t kill mickey ?

A polemic question...

Point three (or more) errors of the opposite gender.
A good question: For you, what country will win the World Cup 2010?
murilo91 1 9
it's a good question Dionete, I think Brazil won't win :(
well, look, it'll take place here in 2014, so Brazil will probably win at home, in 2014, I don't think that the world cup is "natural", some people control it, choose who will win, so Brazil won't be able to win this year!

an interesting one:

what are you? or intend to be/want to be? (career)

ex: I'm a teacher/I want to be a teacher
I'm a lawer/ I want to be a lawer
Flavia.lm 1 10 100
Hi Dionete,

I'd suggest you replace "twist" with the following options:
- I will root for Brazil team (American English) or
- I will support Brazil team (British English)
They're the appropriate ways of saying what you intended to say.

The question you suggested was already posted, thanks for your contribution.

What are your best qualities?
What is your worst quality?
Hello,

My suggestion:

How important is money for you? I bet it is a controversial, debatable and relative subject to point out. It would be nice to hear some random opinions (I don't know whether the word opinion is uncountable, help me) from our EE colleagues.

For simply doing what both like most, most like both.
How much time do you spend studying the language?
Sugestão:

Do you work? If so, where do you work and what do you do there?

What about?

Regards,

Good one.
Is important that we loose our Brazilian accent when we speak English?

Yes or no - why?
Flavia.lm 1 10 100
Hi Lu

Very good one!
This was already raised in this article, but we can continue the discussion here in the forum ;)

Thank you for your very good suggestions.
Flavia,

I had not seen that article. However, I was referring more to people that already speak English rather than in the process of learning. Many people speak English for many years or even live in USA or UK but when they speak they still have a heavy accent. Is this important in the work context? For example, would you improve your chances of promotion? How about when it comes to social relations or acceptance when you live in that country?

In other words, should we emphasize our difference as Brazilians by clinging on to our accents or does dispensing with the accent a way to better integration in the host country?

Can one be fully integrated without loosing a heavy accent? I have my opinion but I would be interested in what the members have to say.
