Sobre o verbo "call''

È sempre dificil saber se uso for ou to, eu pensava que to era usado como uma preposiçao como por exemplo i'm going to to somewhere -eu vou A algum lugar
E o FOR eu pensei que fazia parte do adjunto adverbial de finalidade, ex : i've done the course for passing in the exam -eu fiz o curso PARA passar no exame

Seguindo oq eu pensava que estava certo a frase deveria ser : he called to her for warning her - ele ligou para ela(preposiçao) para avisa-la (faz parte do adjunto adverbial de finalidade) ,removendo parte da frase ficaria he called for warning her . Porem ,essa frase que eu achei na internet esta com TO, e agora estou certo ou errado? Me expliquem com detalhe(se possivel)

A frase da internet : "he called to warn her"
PPAULO 6 49 1.3k
He called her to warn of (something)...
He called her to warn about (something)...

In this case, we can leave out your TO that came before HER. In other words, in natural English you wouldn´t say "I called to her...", no; it´s I called her...

It seems like you are trying to transpose the grammar of Portuguese to English, same with the reasoning.

I've done the course for passing in the exam -eu fiz o curso PARA passar no exame.

A) I took the course (in order) to pass the exam.
B) The course I took helped me (to) pass the exam.
