Para dizer "conversar com alguém" em inglês, tanto faz "talk to", "talk with", "speak to" ou "speak with (American English)".

Do Oxford Dictionary:

Talk: talk (to/with somebody) (about somebody/something)

Who were you talking to just now?
We looked around the school and talked with the principal.

Speak (to somebody) (about something/somebody)

I've spoken to the manager about it.
The President refused to speak to the waiting journalists.
‘Can I speak to Susan?’ ‘Speaking.’ (= at the beginning of a telephone conversation)
‘Do you know him?’ ‘Not to speak to.’ (= only by sight)

(Especially North American English) speak (with somebody) (about something/somebody)

Can I speak with you for a minute?

Do Merriam-Webster:

Talk

often + to

They talked to each other in a whisper.
Who were you talking to on the phone?
I could hear her talking to herself as she studied.

often + with

The coach refused to talk with the reporters.
May I talk with you privately?

Speak:

often + to

We need to speak to our son's teacher about his grades.
He spoke to the police through an interpreter.
They spoke to each other in a whisper.

— often + with in U.S. English

The coach refused to speak with the reporters.
May I speak with you privately?
I spoke with him on the phone yesterday.

  • Eu estava conversando com um amigo.
  • I was talking to a friend.
  • I was talking with a friend.
  • I was speaking to a friend.
  • I was speaking with a friend. (American English)

Howdy, Andressa...

I think " I was talking to a friend " is possible.

" I was talking with a friend. " I would not use it. I think it is more common to use

" I was having a talk with a friend. "

I hope I've helped.

Have a good day !

Hi everyone !

O certo é "talking TO a friend " . Conversando com um amigo.

O with pode ser usado nesses exemplos abaixo :

se você estiver cantando e quer acompanhamento, dai você fala : Sing with me ! Cante comigo !
se você estiver ensinando a pronuncia de alguma palavra, você pode dizer : Repeat with me ! ( os dois pronunciam juntos )
agora se você quer que só a pessoa repita, dai fica "Repeat to me !"

Have an amazing week !
