"There is" no plural?
Tenho estudado o uso do There is/There are junto com os quantificadores:
There are some money.
There are lots of potatoes.
Ok. There are é usado no plural. Mas vejo: "There is some..." "There is lots of..."
Como pode haver "muitos" se está está no singular? There is não deveria ser usado apenas com: "There is a/an..."?

Resumindo: ''There are some money.'' está errado, seguindo o mesmo raciocínio ''There are some water on the floor.'' também está.
Pelo o que compreendi, a lógica é a seguinte:
Usa-se There is + some ou lots of com susbtantivos incontáveis, pois eles não têm plural.
Muito obrigada, gente.

Diante de substantivos incontáveis, normalmente utiliza-se apenas "there is". O "there are" é utilizado antes dos substantivos contáveis (no plural).jsvilela escreveu:Hmmmm. Então no caso eu poderia escrever:
There is some water on the floor ou There are some water on the floor?
No caso, o uso do "there is" com os quantitativos "some" e "lots of" é apenas uma escolha? Fica a meu critério escrever "there is" ou "there are" diante de substantivos incontáveis? Posso escolher qualquer um deles?
Complemento:
Recomendo usar:
There is some water.
There is some milk.
There is hope.
There is money.
There is a little time.
There is an apple on the table.
There are people in the mall.
There are some dogs in the store.
There are some things.
There are books here.
There are friends.
"There is" - singular ou singular incontável.
"There are" - plural.

APRESENTAÇÃO PESSOAL EM INGLÊS
Olá,
Creio que quando você encontra alguma frase com "there is some..." pode ser porque antecede um substantivo incontável.
Por ex.: There is some water on the floor.
There is some bread on the table.
No geral substantivos incontáveis são precedidos por "some" ou por "a piece of", no caso de quantificar apenas um (some information ou a piece of information; some advice or a piece of advice)
Espero ter ajudado de alguma forma.
