1. Onde você não deve utilizar “have”. Nos casos abaixo, use o “there to be’’ (there is ou there are) para dizer “tem”, que equivale a “haver”, “existir”.

There is a computer in the school. [Tem um computador na escola.]
There’s a hospital on that street. [Tem um hospital naquela rua.]
There is a cat at my house. [Tem um gato na minha casa.]
There is a lake in London. [Tem um lago em Londres.]
There are things (that) I can’t understand. [Tem coisas que eu não consigo entender.]
There are good places to visit in Brazil.
There are many bad people in the world. [Tem muita gente ruim no mundo.]
There are people who don’t like it. [Tem pessoas que não gostam disto.]
There are times when you have to think twice.
There are many problems in Brazil. [Tem muitos problemas no Brasil.]
There’s a fly in my soup. [Tem uma mosca na minha sopa.]
Is there a hotel near here? [Tem um hotel aqui perto?]
Is there a bus stop here? [Tem um ponto de ônibus aqui?]
Are there many students in the school? [Tem muitos alunos na escola?]
Are there shopping malls in the city where you live? [Tem shoppings na cidade que você mora?]
There is not a solution to this problem. [Não tem solução para este problema.]
There isn’t water in the bottle. [Não tem água na garrafa.]
There is a good president in France. [Tem um bom presidente na França.]

There is = There’s

2. Onde você deve usar “have” ou “has” (com he, she, it) e não usar “there is” nem “there are”.

I have a problem. [Eu tenho um problema.]
We have four children to support. [Nós temos quatro filhos para sustentar.]
I have pets at home. [Eu tenho animais de estimação em casa.]
I don’t have enough money. [Eu não tenho dinheiro suficiente.]
She has a cat. [Ela tem um gato.]
They have many friends. [Eles tem muitos amigos.]
John has a car. [John tem um carro.]
Do you have time to help me? [Você tem tempo para me ajudar?]
I have nothing. [Eu não tenho nada.]
I have two CDs here. [Eu tenho dois CDs aqui.]
Morrinhos has a lake. [Morrinhos tem um lago.]
Brazil has many problems and many solutions. [O Brasil tem muitos problemas e muitas soluções.]
Mary has a toy. [Mary tem um brinquedo.]
France has a good president. [A França tem um bom presidente.]

Quando ‘’ter’’ expressar a ideia de posse, use have e não “there is” nem “there are’’.
Obrigada tim mas quando uso o have/has?
timphillips 11
Pode utilizar has/have no resto:

(especialmente US) to have... Possuir
E.g. I have three dogs. ... Eu tenho tres cachorros
(especialmente UK) to have got . . . . . Possuir
He has got five cats.

E como verbo auxilar
E.g. I have seen the film "Ghost" seven times.
E.g Has he finished painting the picture?

Hi Andreia,

Só pra complementar, utilizamos:

there is para o singular e coisas não contáveis.
Ex:
there is a pen in my bag (há uma caneta em minha bolsa). pen é contável
there is some grass under the tree (há muita grama embaixo da árvore). grass não é contável
there is some water in the lake near the elefants (há muita água no lago perto aos elefantes). water não é contável

there are para o plural
there are many monkeys in the trees (há muitos macacos nas árvores).
there are two pens in my bag (há duas canetas em minha bolsa).

Have utilizamos para o singular e plural exceto para terceira pessoa do singular.
I/you/we/they have money.

has utilizamos somente na terceira pessoa do singular.
Ex:
he has a blue car (ele tem um carro azul).
she has two brothers (ela tem dois irmãos).
At least it has decent taste.(pelo menos isso tem um gosto aceitável).

Espero ter ajudado, abraços a todos.

Dicas:

1. Nos casos abaixo use “there is” ou “there are” para dizer “tem” (= existe, há). Não use "have" ou "has".

There is a computer in the school. [Tem um computador na escola.]
There’s a hospital on that street. [Tem um hospital naquela rua.]
There is a cat at my house. [Tem um gato na minha casa.]
There is a lake in Morrinhos. [Tem um lago em Morrinhos.]
There are many problems and many solutions in Brazil. [Tem muitos problemas e muitas soluções no Brasil.]
There is a good presidente in France.

Com isso, deve-se utilizar "there is" (there's) ou "there are".

2. Onde você deve usar “have” ou “has” e não usar “there is” nem “there are”.

"I rode a bike at Ibirapuera with friends last year, but it was stressful because there was crowded"

E ele disse que nao era there was e sim it was.

Rs
Donay Mendonça 23 127 1.7k
Olá Andréia,

...it was streesful because it was crowded.(Foi estressante porque estava lotado, cheio de gente.)

...it was stressful because the was a crowd of people.(Foi estressante porque havia uma multidão de gente.)

*it was combina com crowded que é adjetivo.

Boa sorte!

"...it was streesful because there was a convention"

Estaria certo o there ?

ps.:

"it was stressful because the was a crowd of people"
'the was' ou 'there was' ?
Donay Mendonça 23 127 1.7k
Olá Andréia,

Quando é adjetivo usa-se "it was".

Quando é substantivo usa-se "there was".

Exemplos:

a)There was a convention.
B)It was conventional.

Bons estudos! :D

Acabei entendendo que em frase com sujeito se usa have/has:

She has a beautiful car
I have a dog

There is a car in the garage
There was houses being destroyed.

Estou certo?

Outra pergunta, quando o sujeito vem depois, neste caso eu devo usar o there...ou have?

There is/have blood in her mouth

Neste caso eu estou falando dela(Ela) depois,ai eu devo usar There....ou Have?

Thanks.
Donay Mendonça 23 127 1.7k
Gustavo,
Acabei entendendo que em frase com sujeito se usa have/has:

She has a beautiful car
I have a dog
Sim. Frases corretas.

There is a car in the garage
There was houses being destroyed
Correção: There were houses being destroyed.

Gustavo, você entendeu bastante. A dica é: quando você quiser dizer "tem" indicando "posse"(possuir), use "have/has". Quando você quiser dizer "tem" indicando "haver/existir", use "there is/there are".

a. I have a car. [Eu tenho um carro.] - o carro é meu.
b. There is a car in the school. [Tem(há, existe) um carro na escola.]
c. They have a dog. [Eles tem um cachorro.] - o cachorro é deles.
d. There is a dog in the street. [Tem(há, existe) um cachorro na rua.]

Bons estudos!

Eu posso usar (He´s at the college there are 20 years) essa frase está correta?

Obrigado.
Donay Mendonça 23 127 1.7k
Gustavo,

Frase incorreta. Recomendo usar:

He has been at the college for 20 years.

Se eu quiser falar "Se tiver algum carro na garagem depois eu pego" está correto (If there is any car at the garage later I take)?

Obrigado.

"If there is a car in the garage, I will get/take it later" :D
There is para singular, e there are para plural. Quando for traduzir o there is/there are, verifique se soará melhor usar o verbo "existir" ou "ter".

Has somente para terceira pessoa do singular. Have para as demais pessoas. Ao traduzir o have/has, verifique se a tradução soará melhor com "ter" ou "possuir".

Exemplos:

There is a car parked in the front of my garage.

There aren't many honest people nowadays.

You have a nice smile.
(Você tem/possui um sorriso bonito).

She has boyfriend.

- "There is nothing external that is not internal; there is nothing outside that is not inside."

- "There is not anything external that is not internal; there is not anything outside that is not inside."

Which translation is correct?
Mas e em relação a casa (prédio)
Seria have ou there to be?

Por exemplo:

My house has two rooms, all of them having TVs for watch.

Está frase esta correta?
