At the Age of x By the Age of: Qual a diferença

I wonder if there is a difference in the use of: At the age of / By the age of.

Has anyone ever seen this?

''At the age of'' = especifica que é exatamente aquela idade. Ex: At the age of 5 I was already able to speak 2 languages. (Não é 4 nem 6 anos, mas apenas 5, está especificando cinco anos)

''By the age of'' = é mais ou menos por essa idade, não dá 100% de certeza de que é realmente essa a idade, é mais ou menos. Ex: By the age of 5 I was already able to ride a bike (Pelos cinco anos eu já conseguia guiar uma bicicleta, mais ou menos nessa idade, cheguei nessa idade sabendo guiar)

A diferença é pouca mas acho que seria essa. Caso eu esteja errado, por favor, corrijam me.

Fiquei com uma dúvida, eu poderia substituir "By the age of" por apenas "By"?
Tipo, "By eighteen, I' ve already knew to prepare my own lunch."

I would say so, sometimes "by" will mean "when". Only be careful with "by the time", other than that it´s okay.

Example:
By eighteen he had visited nearly all 50 states and most of America's major cities and national parks.

Anyway, with just a sentence is a bit difficult to grasp the nuance/the subtleties, because "by eighteen" could also mean "at the time of reaching (the age of) eighteen". So, it´s the context - so, more text around it, would turn the comprehension more accurate.

By the age: At the time of reaching the age someone was already doing something...
At the age: He began in the same year as reaching the age.

To my thinking "By" (the age #) could mean one of the above (both of them).
