Qual a diferença entre: Below x down to

Daniel Reis 2 16

Mas qual é a diferença entre "below" e "down to"?

Eu poderia dizer: "His fastest lap was down to 1:15:500" ou devo dizer "His fastest lap was below 1:15:500"?

Basicamente o down to não vai ter tradução nenhuma.

His fastest lap was down to 1:15:500
Sua volta mais rápida foi 1:15:500
Sua volta mais rápida chegou à 1:15:500

His fastest lap was below 1:15:500
Sua volta mais rápida foi àboixo de 1:15:500
Sua volta mais rápida foi menos que 1:15:500

Hey there, my friends.

I'd like to present another example:

Whatever the problem, it made Harroun back off just a little, because he would not turn a lap below 9:30 for the remainder of the race.

DANIEL, both examples you presented were correct. It all depends in what you would like to emphasize. For example, if you wanted to show how great the pilot was, you should have said "His fastest lap was below 1:15:500".

I'd like to enjoy the opportunity to point out the difference between below and under.

1- Both below and under can mean lower than.

Example:

The knives are in the cupboard under the sink. or The knives are in the cupboard below the sink.

2- However, below is preferred when one thing is not directly under another.

Examples:

The sun disappeared below the horizon.
(The sun disappeared under the horizon.)

The climbers stopped several hundred meters below the top of the mountain.

3- Under is preferred when something is covered by what is over it.

Examples:

He was wearing a blue shirt under his sweater.
The cat is under the bed.
The whole village was under water.

4- In measurements of temperature and height we use below:

Examples:

The temperature is five degrees below zero.
Parts of the city are below sea level.

5- To mean ‘less than’ or ‘younger than’ we use under.

Examples:

There were under ten students in the class.
(There were below ten students in the class.)

You can’t get a driving license if you are under 18.
(You can’t get a driving license if you are below 18.)

Notes: There is a similar difference between above and over. Above is used in measurements of temperature and height. Over is used to express ideas such as ‘older than’ and ‘more than’:

You have to be over 18 to see that film.

Obrigado pelas respostas amigos, agora finalmente consegui entender a diferença.

The temperature can be down to -20° C. 9 (muito baixa)
The temperature can be up to 30° C. (muito alta)
