Nesse caso, sugiro:

In relation to the positive tendency presented in previous years, 2011 was unusually negative.

  • In relation to the tendency presented in previous years, 2011 was outstanding.
  • In relation to the tendency presented in previous years, 2011 was unprecedented.
  • In relation to the tendency presented in previous years, 2011 was ahead of the curve.
Bons estudos.
Ola.

Yes, perhaps we are talking about Economics then it could be that in 2011 it was a "different" from the trend.
Say, previously (until 2011) the trend was a succession of mounting highs (or lows - the initial statement/question lacked context) so it forms a trend that we could call a curve.

So, in 2011 the "bubble was burst", the trend was broken, there was an inflexion, so it was an outlier (excepcional para mim - seja para o lado negativo ou positivo).

For instance, the trend could be of trade or evaluation of our currency. Could be that (our) inflation had a peak and the trade decreased, but the government devalued in 2011 making our products cheaper to be bought, then it reversed the trade trend all of sudden (in 2011).
Both breaking of trends are outliers to 2011, if it persists then it will form a new trend. This is just an illustration point, economics isn´t my forte.

So, in 2011 the "bubble was burst", the trend was broken, there was an inflexion, so it was an outlier (excepcional para mim - seja para o lado negativo ou positivo).

(Murlilo Pinheiro - site Revide)
