Most common and useful abbreviations

Fiz uma pequena "catança" em várias fontes (por isso não as mencionei abaixo) com as mais comuns e também úteis abreviações.Não coloquei exemplos e nem outros detalhes, apenas o significado para facilitar para os que tem interesse.

Aqui estão as que eu considerei mais comuns e que vemos com mais frequência.

AD/BC – Anno Domini (In the Year of Our Lord) and BC (Before Christ) BCE (Before Common Era)

AKA – also known as.

ASAP – as soon as possible.

AWOL – absent without leave.

BO – body odour.

BTW – by the way.

DIY – do-it-yourself.

DOB – date of birth.

EFL/ELT/ESL – English as a Foreign Language; English Language Teaching; English as a Second Language

BA, MA, BSC, MSC, PhD Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy.

CC and BCC - CC means carbon copy and BCC means blind carbon copy.

ETA – estimated time of arrival.

FAQ – frequently asked questions.

FYI – for your information.

IMO – in my opinion, another common internet abbreviation.

EDM – electronic dance music.

LOL – laugh(ing) out loud.

OMG! – Oh my god!

P.S. – post scriptum.

PTO – Turn over and read the other side.

RIP – Rest in peace. You’ll find it on gravestones and tombstones.

RSVP – For the French répondez s’il vous plait (please reply).

TBA – To be announced.

VIP – Very important person.

TGIF – Thank god it’s Friday.

YOLO – you only live once.
